I have many new teachers in high school, but Lori Runkle, my English Language and Composition teacher, is my favorite teacher.
Ms. Runkle enjoys getting to know more about students, so I have many chances to talk with her after class. I have always wanted to become a journalist. Since Ms. Runkle used to be a journalist back in the United States, she has introduced many helpful journalistic writing skills to me.
Although she is my teacher, Ms. Runkle and I are more like friends. She often invites my classmates and me to take part in different activities outside of school. For example, I went to listen to a journalist's speech, which helped me better understand current events .
Not only does Ms. Runkle talk with me outside of school, she is also a great teacher in the classroom. English Language and Composition is a really hard subject for a second language learner. We felt worried in the beginning, but Ms. Runkle really makes an effort to help us out. In class, Ms. Runkle always encourages students to question everything to keep us active. One part of class I love the most is when groups of students are required to give speeches on events that are happening in the world. It requires a lot of deep thinking and I really learn quite a lot from it.

A new survey carried out by genealogy (家谱) site Ancestry.com shows that while online family history research has grown by 14 times over the past ten years, many Americans know surprisingly little about their own families.
For example, the survey found that 22 percent of Americans don’t know what either of their grandfathers do or did for a living, and although America is known as a nation of immigrants (移民), 27 percent don’t know where their family lived before they came to America.
“We have so much to learn about our own families,” said Tim Sullivan, president of the Generations Network. “Our parents, grandparents, great-grandparents each have a lifetime of extremely great and special experiences that have shaped their lives and influenced our own. It’s important we take time to better get to know our family members and to share our stories.”
More people than ever are researching their family history now. “In the past, people usually waited until they retired (退休) and had the money and time to go out and do research,” said genealogist Elissa Scalise Powell, co-director Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh. “Now people can do it on their lunch hour from work.”
“Online research is a starting point. It used to be that only limited materials were posted, but many libraries and other records places are sharing their records online now,” said Jill Crandell, director, Center for Family History and Genealogy, Brigham Young University.
However, Powell warned that “The Internet is no different (than other sources) and can not be completely correct. Just because a document has an official stamp on it doesn’t make it right.”
“Begin at home,” Crandell said. “Start by gathering the records in your own home, then talk to relatives and see what you can learn from them. They may have records and memories that go beyond what you have.”
“You may run out of important records on the Internet, and that’s when you turn to education,” Powell said. “Look in your community (社区) for classes.”
“Every live person is a library burning. Only you have the memories. Others, even your siblings (兄弟姊妹), will have different opinions. Writing down your memories will help the next generation,” Powell added.
1.What does the new survey find?
A.People usually do their family history research online.
B.Many Americans know little about their grandfathers’ work.
C.A lot of Americans don’t have much idea about their families.
D.About one-fourth of Americans don’t know about their grandparents
2.What is Sullivan’s opinion about family history research?
A.It’s difficult.
B.It’s meaningful.
C.It’s boring.
D.It’s strange.
3.Why is there a rise in family history research?
A.It’s easier than in the past.
B.People have longer lunch hours now.
C.There’re more retired people than ever.
D.People have the money and time to go out now.
4.What advice does Powell give to people doing online research?
A.Be careful.
B.Choose official websites.
C.Never believe the Internet.
D.Help make online mistakes right.
5.Who can give you a hand with your family research according to Crandell?
A.Librarians.
B.Neighbours.
C.Your classmates.
D.Your relatives.

Clover, a three-year-old spirit bear, lives at the B.C. Wildlife Park near Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada. He lost his parents two years ago and was raised at a wildlife center. When he was set free into the wild, he broke into human camps looking for food. Wildlife experts tried to get him used to living on his own, but he continued to look for places where there were people. Finally the experts decided that he could not live in the wild. Since then, a total of $750,000 has been collected to create a habitat for Clover.
The habitat covers about three acres (英亩) of land and includes natural forest, two ponds connected by a small river and something else. It will add a platform and a walkway later this year so that people can see Clover and his habitat more closely. There will also be a center where people can learn more about spirit bears. Besides, a black bear will be moved into the habitat so Clover will not feel lonely.
Spirit bears are also called Kermode bears after Francis Kermode, who first studied them. Kermode discovered that a small number of black bears carry a gene (基因) for white fur. If a baby bear receives one of these genes from each parent, its fur will be a creamy white color.  There are about 1,200 bears who carry the gene for white fur, but only about 200 white Kermode bears in the world. Kermode bears are found only in British Columbia. They live in the Great Bear Rainforest, an area that covers the mainland and islands along the coast of B.C. between Vancouver and Alaska.

Eating right
