Are you sometimes a little tired and sleepy in the early afternoon? Many people feel this way after lunch. They may think that eating lunch is the cause of the sleepiness. Or, in summer, they may think it is the heat. However, the real reason lies inside their bodies. At that time – about eight hours after you wake up – your body temperature goes down. This is what makes you slow down and feel sleepy. Scientists have tested sleep habits in experiments where there was no night or day. The people in these experiments almost always followed a similar sleeping pattern. They slept for one long period and then for one short period about eight hours later.
In many parts of the world, people take naps(小睡) in the middle of the day. This is especially true in warmer climates, where the heat makes work difficult in the early afternoon. Researchers are now saying that naps are good for everyone i n any climate. A daily nap gives one a more rested body and mind and therefore is good for health in general. In countries where naps are traditional, people often suffer less from problems such as heart disease.
Many working people, unfortunately, have no time to take naps. Though doctors may advise taking naps, employers do not allow it! If you do have the chance, however, here are a few tips about making the most of your nap. Remember that the best time to take a nap is about eight hours after you get up. A short sleep too late in the day may only make you feel more tired and sleepy afterward. This can also happen if you sleep for too long. If you do not have enough time, try a short nap – even ten minutes of sleep can be helpful.
1.Why do people feel sleepy in the early afternoon according to the text?
A.Their body temperature becomes lower.
B.They sleep too little at night.
C.They eat too much for lunch.
D.The weather becomes a lot warmer.
2.If you get up at 6:30 am, what is the best time for you to take a nap?
A.About 12:30 pm.
B.About 2:30 pm
C.About 1:30 pm.
D.About 3:30 pm
3.What advice does the writer give on taking a nap?
A.You’d better take a nap about an hour after you have lunch.
B.You can sleep as long as you like so that you will not feel tied or sleepy.
C.Only people in warmer climate need to take a nap.
D.If your time is limited, a short nap can also help.
4.What would be the best title for the text?
A.Just for a Rest
B.All for a Nap
C.A Special Sleep Pattern.
D.Taking Naps in Warmer Climate.

Thousands of years ago, birthdays were considered special days. On birthdays, the bad spirits were able to harm you and change your life. It was believed that the only way to solve the problem was to have your friends and family around you, so that good wishes and presents would keep the bad spirits away. Also, noisemakers were thought to be used at parties as a way of scaring away the evil spirits.
The custom of lighting candles was created by people believing that the gods lived in the sky. By lighting candles and torches, they were sending a signal or prayer to the gods, so they could be answered. Blowing out the candles and making a wish were thought to be another way of sending a signal or a message.
This is how the way we celebrate our birthdays came about. But different cultures celebrate in different ways.
The birthday story in the Bible that we know best is about the birth of the Christ in Bethlehem. For nearly 2000 years since that day, the Christian world has been honoring this birth. The day many Englishmen celebrate is, of course, Christmas. There are other references to birthday parties. King Pharaoh celebrated his birthday by making a feast for his court followers. That was over 4000 years ago. The story of King Herod tells that on his birthday he made a supper for his lords, high captains and other special friends in Galilee.

2.The two ancient kings’ ways of celebrating their birthdays show __________________.
A.how different cultures celebrate in different ways

4.The passage is mainly about __________________.
A.the functions of the noises made on birthdays.
B.how to scare away the bad spirits on birthdays

The weather is getting hotter. You are thirsty playing basketball or riding home from school. A cold drink may be just the thing. But be careful what you are drinking. Something that looks cool may not be good for your health. There are plenty of “energy drinks” on the market. Most of them have beautiful colors and cool names. The lists on them tell you they are helpful to your health. Sounds great!
But after a careful check you may find that most energy drinks have lots of caffeine(咖啡碱)in them. These drinks are especially aimed at young people, students, busy people and sports players. Makers sometimes say their drinks make you better at sports and can keep you awake. But be careful not to drink too much. Caffeine makes your heart beat fast. Because of this, the International Olympic Committee(IOC) has limited(限制) its use. Caffeine in most energy drinks is at least as strong as that in a cup of coffee or tea. Possible health dangers have something to do with energy drinks. Just one box of energy drink can make you nervous, have difficulty sleeping and can even cause heart problems. Scientists say that teenagers should be discouraged from taking drinks with a lot of caffeine in them.

If we often question whether that we are told is true, we can find the correct answer and learn more.
Several days ago, our teacher offered us an answer at a difficult math problem in class. Although an answer seemed a little strange, but only I doubted it. Thought that his answer might be wrong, I carefully considered the problem and tried to work them out in a different way. Half an hour late, I finally managed to find its correct answer. When I showed the answer to him, the teacher praised me for my independence thinking.
From this experience I had already come to the conclusion that questioning can serve a bridge that helps us find the truth.
